First Steps
Hello,
My name is Ema and you're reading the very first post from this fall’s YLP group. Today we're leaving Huntley Lodge and going to meet our host families. We've had a lot of fun here, but before that I will write something about my journey from sending the application to this day.
I was browsing on the Internet and I saw post on site of American Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina about this program. I was very interested in that so I decide to apply. After I got call that I'm in the top 100 and that I was going to be interviewed I was very excited but also nervous. Even though I haven't been completely satisfied how I did the interview I stayed very positive. I believed in myself and I kept telling that I'm definitely going to be the part of this program. When my friend told me that she is going to the States I was very happy for her, but also very disappointed in me. I lost every hope that I'm going to be chosen for Youth Leadership Program. And the, in the middle of the class I got phone call from US Embassy that I'm the part of this program. I was very happy and I started jumping up down like a little child. All my work has paid off.
When I met entire group in Sarajevo I thought that I could never work with them. But today after spending three days in this lodge and doing all kind of activities with them I realized something. I realized that we couldn't work without each other. That exactly those different things are connecting us. But we have to be aware of our flaws and we have to understand them. Only like that we can work and gain something together.
Greetings, Ema
