New Experiences
Sometimes it is really hard to start doing something that is kind of new to you, something you don't know how to do and you are doing for the first time. Today we got to do some really important things, firstly we went to the food bank.
Honestly I did not know what to expect, I was a little pessimistic, but, I wanted to help. We arrived at the food bank and people were already standing in line, there were a lot of them. So the people who were already volunteering at the food bank, gave us a certain job. We were all standing in the lines excited and ready to serve, then the people went in. I was shock to see how many of them came to the food bank, hungry and tired of life and its challenges.
There were a lot of Chinese people and other Asians, but that was to expect because we were in the Chinatown and International district. I was surprised how nice people were there and how patient are they, some of them were pushing, arrogant and they wanted more, but I actually understood that, because that were their empty stomachs talking.
When ever I looked to my friends to see how they were doing, they were smiling, they were so happy because they could put that same smile on someones else's face. So what can I say in the name of all of my friends and the participants from the YLP is that we were really enjoying and we had a lot of fun, and we were happy to do something for those people, and this experience changed us as a young man, we all see some things different now and we are all grateful with what we have.
So If you are reading this now I want to encourage you to go to any food bank, to volunteer and to gain the same experience as I did, food banks really need people and they really need your help and YOU!
So when we arrived home, we were quite tired from our thoughts, but we had a great way to rest! It was a Halloween. Alem and I were so excited that we were able to scare so many kids. We were wearing our costumes and we did a really good job scaring the kids, we loved it. After the scaring part some of our parents family friends come to visit with their children. It was really nice, because we got to talk about our program with our parents friends and play with their children. So we had a relaxing and warm night, spent in the friendly environment.
I really enjoyed writing this blog, but i think that i should go before Alem and the kids eat all of the candy...
