After an exciting spring in the U.S., there came even more exciting summer, a lot of great experiences, vast knowledge and euphoria were some of many things that came with us back to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Just a few days after our return we held a meeting, it was a bit strange to do it without our fellow colleagues from the other towns, but all we could think of were our projects.
As we thought about our first planned project we realized how we can do something more valuable for all of us and our community, so we decided to do more than we originally planned. We scheduled workshops, volunteering and seminars.
There is a proverb by Tertullian: " Indeed it is better to postpone, lest either we complete too little by hurrying, or wander too long in completing it. "
Even though we were so ambitious about all of it, we decided it is better to be patient and wait for autumn to finish everything successfully and completely.
As our impatient grew autumn came and it was time to transform our ideas into action. Our main goals were to transmit knowledge we got from an expensive trip to a few dollars worth seminar and to put a smile on someone's face and make them feel as an equal member of society. We did both. Project planning is one of the most valuable things we learned in U.S.A. so we thought: "Why not teach the same here in Bihać?"
First, we wanted to know more about our community problems so we had a survey of about 5 questions. This way were able to go deeper inside a community and find out what they were thinking about.
There is an association "The joy of companionship" in Bihać for children with disabilities. They were organizing a humanitarian day for which they were selling coupons.
We asked them to participate as volunteers and sell 200 of those. Of-course, they were happy to let us help. Therefore we managed to sell all of it and gather around $130.
On the 17th of September we held a seminar about "Project Planning"
There was about 30 participants who joined us and were able to learn and do humanitarianism by giving $ 0.65 for participation cards (same coupons as before) to children with disabilities. There were a lot of interesting new ideas developed during the seminar from new leaders we were proud of.
In a closer future we are planning on funding some of their ideas.
Bihać team held the first part of a 2 days workshop for kids with disabilities. We can't wait to go back on the 28th Sept. when we will make a fruit salad with them and a volunteer will play a guitar which they requested.
People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. These projects are ours and we do our best to make them happen as they were first imagined.
