FIUTS Homestay & Friendship Programs
Bring the World to Your Doorsteps!
FIUTS is always in need of globally-minded volunteers to offer short-term homestays lasting from one weekend to three weeks. A homestay is a great way to make international connections and welcome a new visitor to our region!
Not able to host a homestay? There are lots of other ways that you can volunteer to support and engage with international visitors. See below for a full list of our programs.
Already a host? Fill out the Availability Survey to let us know when you can host this year.
Host a Student for the Youth Leadership Program on Oceans (March 11-21, 2016): FIUTS will soon welcome a group of high school students and adult educators from Pacific Rim countries (China, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Korea and Thailand) for a 10-day program on leadership development, environmental activism and civic engagement. We are looking for hosts to enrich their cultural experience in Seattle for one or two participants! Learn more or apply to be a host!
Host a University of Washington international student for their first week in town: Through our unique "Welcome Week" homestay program, students of all levels (freshmen through PhD/visiting scholar) can apply to stay with a host for their first 7-10 days in Seattle prior to moving into the residence halls or off-campus housing. Students come from over 40 different countries. Learn more or apply to host!
Host a Youth Ambassador from the Caribbean for 10 days: In August 2015, FIUTS will welcome a group of promising young leaders (ages 15-18) and teachers from several countries in the Caribbean. Hosts are needed from August 15-25. Learn more or apply to host!
Host a student from China for just a weekend: Each summer, high school students and teachers from China join FIUTS for an English program. Students take classes and live in the residence halls on campus for two weeks, and spend one weekend in a homestay to experience local life and culture. If you're new to hosting, it's a great way to try it out! Learn more or apply to host a student or a teacher from China this summer!
Host a student from South Asia for just a weekend: FIUTS produces a summer program for university-level journalism students from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Learn more or apply to host a student from South Asia in July!
Friendship Connections: For those who don’t have the extra space for a homestay, Friendship Connections are an excellent way to help international students at the University of Washington feel welcome in Seattle.
