Study of the U.S. Institute for Student Leaders in Journalism and New Media (SUSI)
About the Program
FIUTS has been selected to host the Study of the US Institute for Student Leaders in Journalism and New Media (SUSI), sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The 2015 program will take place from June 22-July 27.
This program brings 20 undergraduates from Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Nepal to Seattle. While here, international participants study journalism and new media, and participate in volunteer and service activities, leadership workshops, and cultural excursions. Students stay in University of Washington residence halls and spend one weekend with a local homestay host. The last portion of the program takes place in Chicago and Washington D.C.
The Study of the U.S. Institutes promote a better understanding of the people, institutions, and culture of the United States among foreign students, teachers, and scholars. Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) are short-term academic programs for groups of undergraduate leaders, educators, and scholars from around the world. Learn more about the Study of the U.S. Institutes here.
This program is produced by FIUTS in partnership with the Seattle Globalist, whose staff teach classes on topics in journalism and new media.
Students can get involved in the SUSI program by applying to be a SUSI Ambassador. Ambassadors are a critical piece of the program and act as peer mentors, cultural liaison, friends and student leaders. SUSI Ambassadors learn new skills, build their resume, make international friends and have FUN! Click here to download the SUSI Ambassador application.
Community members are invited to host one or more SUSI participants for one weekend. The Homestay Weekend is an important opportunity for participants to learn about U.S. culture and connect with local people. The summer 2015 homestay will be from July 9-12; details are available here. Please contact email@example.com if you would like to host.
