In preparation for returning home please read the letter below written to you by FIUTS Executive Director, Era Schrepfer, and use the Going Home Checklist to ensure you don't forgot anything important.
Congratulations on your successes at the University of Washington!
We at FIUTS are proud of you, and you should be proud of your hard work and commitment. Whether you leave the UW with a degree or are completing a short-term program, I hope you take a moment to look back on your time in Seattle.
As an international student, the challenges of your coursework were complicated by language and intercultural difficulties and by being far from the support of your family. Through your experience at the UW, you have proven that you have the character and life skills you will need to navigate your way through whatever you will encounter in the months and years ahead.
By participating in FIUTS programs, such as Homestay, Wednesday Lunch, or Education Outreach, you represented your home country and learned about others, and I hope you will continue to be a willing ambassador for international friendship wherever you go. I urge you to keep the spirit of FIUTS alive in your life – ask questions, engage people from diverse backgrounds, and make friends from around the world.
I also hope that you will stay in touch with the friends you made here in Seattle. FIUTS offers many ways to remain in contact:
And consider becoming a member of the UW Alumni Association, it’s a terrific way to hear about University of Washington events happening around the country and the world.
As you return to your home country or go on to a new adventure, I hope that the special experience you have had at the University of Washington and with FIUTS will remain with you always.
