Information for students on the FIUTS community homestay and hosting programs.

FIUTS Homestay Programs

The FIUTS Homestay program is primarily for new international students, and there are several different ways that students can use the FIUTS homestay program to meet local hosts in Seattle to help them transition into their new life. The program options are as follows:

Homestays

The Homestay program is a cross-cultural friendship experience between an international student and an American host. As part of this program, you will spend 7-10 days in the home of a volunteer host. Your host family will help you to settle in and learn more about Seattle during your first few days in the US. This program is primarily for students who have never studied or lived in the US, and who want to stay in someone's home for their first week in the US. Apply online here.

Homestay processing fees are as follows:

- Individual students: $100
- Married couples: $125
- Families: $150

Application Deadlines:

- February 27th, 2012 (For students arriving spring quarter)
- 1 month prior to arrival (all other students/ scholars)

Friendship Connections

The Friendship Connection program matches a student with a local volunteer for friendship. This program does not include a homestay, but a Friendship Connection host will help you get to know Seattle and also invite you out for occasional hospitality throughout the year. This program is for students who already have housing plans, but want to get to know Seattle and its people during their stay in the US. Apply online here.

Cost:    $35 (all students)

Thanksgiving Dinner

The Thanksgiving Dinner program allows UW international students enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at the home of a local host during the American Thanksgiving holiday - this is the 4th Thursday in November every year. To participate, students can apply in person at the FIUTS office during the month of November.

Cost: Free (you must be a FIUTS member to participate)
