International Orientation Schedule

International Student Orientation is designed for new internationals coming to the University of Washington. The FIUTS orientation program provides a chance for students to learn more about the University of Washington and Seattle, receive information about immigration, health care, personal safety and meet current international students. FIUTS will contact you directly before you arrive with detailed orientation information. Please attend as many events as possible.

Some social activities have required sign up and cost a small fee (cash or checks only please). We look forward to meeting you!

Monday, September 8 - Wednesday, September 10- OPEN!
Greeting Table
, Husky Union Building (HUB) Lobby Open from 10 am - 1 pm

Your first point of contact, at the Greeting Table you can learn from current UW students how to check in with the Office of International Students and Scholars, sign up for orientation activities and get your new international student arrival packet.
*Tickets are required for all ISS Check-In Sessions during the month of September. Pick up your ticket at the Greeting Table or FIUTS Office.

Thursday, September 11:

Opening Day, HUB Ballroom 9am

Your official welcome to the University of Washington. FIUTS and the UW will welcome more than 1000 new international students. The day will start of with breakfast and information tables. The morning's agenda includes speakers from the University of Washington and FIUTS along with guest speakers from the community.

Campus and the University District Tour, 1:30 - 3:30 pm
Following Opening Day's events, FIUTS facilitators will provide a guided tour of campus and the "Ave" where many commercial businesses are located.

*Please note, there will be no ISS check-ins on Opening Day.

Downtown Seattle Tour, 1:30 pm
Visit Seattle's main attractions and get to know other's on this guided tour of downtown Seattle. The tour will end at Woodland Park, which is the site of the Welcome Barbeque.
Meet at the Burke Cafe at 1:30pm. (No sign up required, FREE)

Welcome Barbeque (BBQ), Woodland Park, 6 pm - 9pm
Meet with currents students, community members, and other new internationals at an American-style BBQ. Enjoy a game of soccer or ultimate frisbee. Families welcome! All food, condiments, water and sports equipment will be provided by FIUTS. For those not going on the downtown tour meet at the Burke Cafe at 5:15pm. (No sign up required, FREE)

 

Saturday, September 13 - Sunday, September 14:

Camp Arnold Eatonville
Make friends and have fun at this overnight event. There will be fun activities such as hiking, sports, campfire, dancing, cultural skits and more. Bring a sleeping bag, clothes, shoes, lunch and water for the hike. No alcohol allowed! Meet at the Burke Cafe at 8:00 am. If you are moving into the dorms this weekend, we have a special room reserved where you can leave your stuff. Go to Terry Hall, meet inside at the Front Desk at 7:30am on Saturday morning. (Advanced sign-up required, $40)

FIUTS's Mini World Cup
Men and women from various countries and regions will compete for the ultimate FIUTS World Cup title! This is a mini soccer (football) tournament played on shortened fields and shortened periods. Come play and/or cheer on your country mates. Meet at IMA Soccer Field at 4pm. (Advanced sign-up, walk-ons welcome; FREE)

Saturday, September 20:

Dim Sum Breakfast in International District and Shopping,
Enjoy a traditional Cantonese-style brunch in the International District--always a favorite! Foods contains pork and shrimp. Following Dim Sum the group will be taken in UW vans to IKEA and a shopping mall to make your first purchases. Meet at Burke Cafe at 11am. (Advanced sign-up $20)

Sunday, September 21:

Rotary International Boat Cruise, 12 pm - 3:30 pm
Join the Rotary Club for a scenic harbor cruise and dinner aboard the Argosy Cruises' Spirit of Seattle. Enjoy views of downtown Seattle at sunset. Meet Rotarians and their high school exchange students. This is a great chance to meet the international community of Seattle. (Advanced Sign-Up, limit to 350) Meet at the Burke Cafe at 10:15am to be at the Pier by 12:00 pm. (Advanced sign-up; $25)
