Session Proposal: FIUTS International Student Orientation (2016)
Join FIUTS in welcoming new international students to the UW! Submit an information session proposal for Fall 2016 FIUTS International Student Orientation.
You are invited to join the Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS) in welcoming more than 2,000 new international students to the University of Washington this fall.
FIUTS International Student Orientation (September 13-23) is a 10-day program for international undergraduate, graduate, and exchange students and scholars beginning their studies at the UW. The FIUTS Orientation program includes social events and information sessions designed to introduce new students to important resources on and off campus, help them to form new friendships, explore our city, and make a smooth transition to the UW community.
Information Sessions & Resource Fair
Approximately 30 information sessions will be offered to new international students on a variety of topics on Tuesday, September 20, and Thursday, September 22. Sessions take place in the HUB, with two to three sessions running concurrently and each session lasting 50 minutes. Attendance usually averages around 30 students per session, but some sessions can have 150-200 participants. New this year is a Resource Fair on Monday, September 19. Participants can opt to only table at the fair, to table and refer students to their later info session, or to only present an info session.
Sessions can be presented by multiple presenters - from campus and the community - and in various formats. We encourage collaborative, creative and interactive session proposals! We encourage both general-interest sessions as well as those targeted to specific populations of students.
Thank you for proposing a session for FIUTS International Student Orientation. Information sessions will be chosen by FIUTS staff and students. Upon proposal review, FIUTS may make recommended changes to session content and/or suggest collaboration among presenters proposing similar session content. Selected presenters will be notified and scheduled by mid-July. If you have any questions, please contact FIUTS.
Please note: Presenters are not compensated; however, they are welcome to distribute flyers, coupons, samples, and other resources. No direct sales are allowed at information sessions or the resource fair.
