Session Proposal: FIUTS International Welcome Weeks (2017)

Join FIUTS in welcoming new international students to the UW! Submit an information session proposal for Fall 2017 FIUTS International Welcome Weeks.

You are invited to join the Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS) in welcoming more than 2,000 new international students to the University of Washington this fall.

FIUTS International Welcome Weeks
(September 11-22) is a two-week program for international undergraduate, graduate, and exchange students and scholars beginning their studies at the UW. The FIUTS International Welcome Weeks program includes required international student orientation sessions as well as other social programs and information sessions designed to introduce new students to important resources on and off campus, help them to form new friendships, explore our city, and make a smooth transition to the UW community.

Information Sessions & Resource Fair
Approximately 30-40 information sessions will be offered to new international students on a variety of topics on Wednesday-Friday, September 20-23. Sessions take place in the HUB, with two to three sessions running concurrently and each session lasting 50 minutes. Attendance usually averages around 30 students per session, but some sessions can have 150-200 participants. International Welcome Weeks also features a Resource Fair on Tuesday, September 19. Participants can opt to only table at the fair, to table and refer students to their later info session, or to only present an info session.

Sessions can be presented by multiple presenters - from campus and the community - and in various formats. We encourage collaborative, creative and interactive session proposals! We encourage both general-interest sessions as well as those targeted to specific populations of students.

Note: If you have presented an information session in previous years and would like to repeat the same session, you may skip this form and email to note your interest in repeating your session. Please include the name of your session, any updates to the description or presenters, and your availability to present on Wednesday, Sept. 20-Friday, Sept. 22, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., as well as your interest/availability in participating in the Resource Fair on Tuesday, September 19.

Orientation sessions run concurrently - with as many as 3 or 4 offered at the same time. Would you be willing to offer your session more than once to accommodate student interest throughout the week?
Would your session best be hosted in your own space (ie. library resources, IMA tour, etc.), rather than in the HUB? If you can offer an alternate meeting place, where is it and how may students can you accommodate?

Thank you for proposing a session for FIUTS International Welcome Weeks. Upon proposal review, FIUTS may make recommended changes to session content and/or suggest collaboration among presenters proposing similar session content. Selected presenters will be notified and scheduled by mid-July. If you have any questions, please contact FIUTS.

Please note: Presenters are not compensated; however, they are welcome to distribute flyers, coupons, samples, and other resources. No direct sales are allowed at information sessions or the resource fair.
