Spring 2017 Orientation

Orientation photo1Welcome to Spring Quarter at the University of Washington! FIUTS International Student Orientation officially begins on Friday, March 24, and activities continue throughout the weekend.

New international students starting in Spring Quarter 2017 are advised to arrive before March 24. While you do not need to register for the orientation program in advance, you do need to submit your immigration documents to International Student Services (ISS) online when you arrive in the United States.

Friday, March 24th

Exchange Student Session
1-2 p.m., The HUB Room 340

Orientation: Official Welcome to the University
2-4:30 p.m., The HUB Room 340
Speakers from campus offices, International Student Services (ISS) and FIUTS introduce you to UW resources and important immigration requirements.

Campus Tour & Dinner with Current Students
4:30-7:30 p.m., Leave from Orientation
Following a campus tour, join current students for dinner and conversation at a local restaurant in the University District. Family members and friends welcome. Bring $10-15 for dinner.

Saturday, March 25th

Seattle Scavenger Hunt, 12-7 p.m.
Explore Seattle's various neighborhoods! We'll divide you into groups and give you clues that will lead you to landmarks, shops and more! Get to know your new surroundings in the University District, and explore the famous Pike Place Market for sightseeing in America's oldest public market. Bring your U-PASS, comfortable shoes, plus spending money for food.
Meeting Place: Meet at the George Washington statue, 12 p.m.

Sunday, March 26th

Seattle Underground Tour, 12-4 p.m.
Go on a leisurely, guided walking tour
beneath Seattle’s sidewalks and streets, on what were once Seattle's main roadways. Explore Seattle from the bottom up in this underground tour and leave with stories to tell. This tour is full of humor and history that showcases the quirky character of Seattle. Bring your Husky Card for transportation, comfortable walking shoes, and $17 for the tour (cash or credit card). Friends and family are welcome to join.
Meeting Place: Meet at the George Washington statue, 12 p.m.

Monday, March 27th - First Day of Classes

, April 5th

Wednesday Lunch, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., The HUB South Ballroom
A popular FIUTS tradition, Wednesday Lunch is a free lunch held each month. It is a great place to see friends and meet new ones! All UW students, staff, and Seattle community members are welcome to attend. 


New international students will receive weekly e-mails starting approximately two months before orientation on topics like orientation details, checking in at the UW, and transportation. Did you miss one of our orientation pre-arrival emails? Find them here.
