Become a Student Leader

Like many non-profit organizations, FIUTS depends on the generosity and dedication of our volunteers to help accomplish our goals. Getting involved at FIUTS is a great opportunity to learn intercultural leadership skills and make new friends.

Note: All leadership program applicants must live in the greater Seattle area

There are many opportunities for student leadership in FIUTS programs, including:

what do fiuts facilitators do?

Facilitators are an important part of the FIUTS mission and truly make a difference. There are many types of facilitating opportunities (Leading excursions, tours, & hikes, Conversation Groups, Wednesday Lunch, Visiting Program Ambassadors, Orientation). Plus, facilitators can continue learning and developing new skills through ongoing training and support.

What is the commitment?

Facilitators are expected to facilitate at least once a quarter so that you stay active. If you are inactive for one year you will need to attend another New Facilitator Orientation. The hours that you serve are flexible (you choose the events that you facilitate), but Facilitators are expected to keep their commitments.

How do I become a fiuts facilitator?

Complete a facilitator application and attend one of the New Facilitator Orientation training sessions. You will receive more information about leading events and how to sign-up as a facilitator during New Facilitator Orientation.

When is the next New Facilitator Orientation?

New Facilitator Orientations take place at-least once a month. You only need to attend ONE of these sessions. More details regarding the dates, times, and locations of these sessions are available on the FIUTS calendar.

who is eligible?

FIUTS welcomes student volunteers from any campus in the Puget Sound region. Facilitators can be any current student, domestic or international, graduate or undergraduate. No experience is necessary, just an interest in building leadership skills in a global community.

is there a deadline to submit the facilitator application?

We are always accepting applications - there is no deadline to apply, but you MUST attend one New Facilitator Orientation session in order to become a FIUTS Facilitator. If you miss out on getting trained this quarter, please know that you can attend any session scheduled throughout the year.
