Meet the FIUTS Summer 2021 SUSIs: Indonesia

FIUTS is thrilled to welcome 24 undergraduates from Brazil, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia, and Tunisia as part of the 2021 Study of the US Institute (SUSI) for Student Leaders on Education and the Future of Work. While this program usually takes place in person in Seattle, we are excited to host our first virtual SUSI this summer!

During the 5-week virtual program, the group will study the ways in which technology, innovation, and globalization are prompting the development of new initiatives to educate and prepare youth with the professional skills needed to succeed in the future. They will also take part in curriculum development seminars to prepare them to develop and lead trainings that benefit their home communities.

Every day this week FIUTS will introduce the SUSI participants from one of the six country groups that make up the 2021 cohort. Continue on to read more about the SUSIs representing Indonesia!

Dwiki Hermawan Halla

My name is Dwiki Hermawan Halla, hailing from Manado, Indonesia. I grew up in a small town on the outskirts of Manado. I'm currently pursuing my Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. In high school, I used to have a nickname, Dwikipedia, because everyone thought I knew many things (I assure you, I don't).

However, I love to explore new things and I try to open myself to an endless array of interests. In my freshman year of college, I was a journalist for our university's Student Press Institute, where I became the Editor-in-chief. Then in my sophomore and junior years, I attended a few Model UN conferences which opened my eyes to the world of diplomacy and international relations. Now I'm volunteering for a youth empowerment organization called Forum Indonesia Muda (FIM), where I have now been promoted to the Regional Coordinator for my local area. Through FIM I hope that the young people of my city will be able to amplify the impacts the youths can make in their local area with the spirits of mutual contribution. I wish to see an increase in human development in this city.

Outside of my study and volunteering work, you'd likely find me reading books, binge-watching TV shows, or working on my screenplay. I like collecting postcards and learning new languages. I also have a keen interest in geography to the point where I managed to memorize all capitals of the world plus all 50 states of the United States by heart.
