Meet the FIUTS Winter 2022 SUSIs: Angola

FIUTS is thrilled to welcome 20 undergraduates from Angola, Botswana, Mali, Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe as part of the 2022 Study of the US Institute (SUSI) for Student Leaders on Civic Engagement. While this program usually takes place in person in Seattle, we are excited to work with these students virtually over the next few weeks, and hopefully welcome them to Seattle in person once it’s safe for them to travel.

During the 5-week virtual program, the group will study civic engagement and the history of social movements and social change in the United States. They will take part in activities to build their leadership and intercultural communication skills, and plan Community Action Projects that they’ll then implement after the conclusion of the program.

Over the next couple of weeks, FIUTS will introduce the SUSI participants from one of the six country groups that make up the Winter 2022 cohort. Continue on to read more about the SUSIs representing Angola!

FAbio Komba

I’m a 22-years-old Pan African young man from Angola, who is currently doing the third year at the course of Accounting and Finance at ISAF. I´m a member and leader of a debate club created by me and some friends in our university, in this club we seek to cultivate in young people the investigative spirit, critical thinking, and community leadership through the transmission of knowledge provided by books and discussion sessions. Our main goal is to inspire young people to position themselves in society as change makers and to always seek for more knowledge to progress. I am also one of the founders of a start-up that deals with tourism by allowing travelers to have access to easy and cheap accommodations during their trip in Angola. I always had a passion for entrepreneurship and the decision to create this start-up came because my team and I wanted to make life easier for travelers but at the same time making life also better for our communities through the exploration of economic tourism. My team and I had the privilege of being selected as one of the 3 best tourism startups in a national competition in 2020. I´m passionate about astrology, music, sports, video games and history.
