Welcome to Seattle! It's been a long journey and we're so glad you've chosen the beautiful Puget Sound region to be your new home away from home! As you prepare for your arrival to the Seattle area, FIUTS is looking forward to welcoming you. In this week's email, we'll highlight events for FIUTS’ Welcome to Seattle Week that provide a great start to the year ahead - chances to explore, build friendships with students from around the region, and provide new opportunities for global engagement. Apply today for a short-term homestay! Interested in staying with a local family for your first week in the Seattle area? FIUTS hosts are volunteers who open their homes and lives to new students! Students pay only a small application fee to take part in the program once they are placed. Note: Homestay applications are due one month before arrival. Have questions about homestay? The FIUTS team is already preparing for this fall’s Welcome to Seattle Week! We’re planning a week of exploration, community building, and celebration as we kick off the academic year for new students from across our community. We will have daily neighborhood scavenger hunts, an international trivia night, a cruise around Lake Union, and a neighborhood cleanup followed by a community bbq/block party. Go for a scenic cruise around South Lake Union. Enjoy views of the Seattle skyline, Queen Anne, Fremont, Gas Works Park, and more! Pizza and soft drinks are included! For those 21+, the cruise has a bar where you can purchase alcoholic drinks. Meet FIUTS Facilitators at the U-District LINK station or the Capitol Hill Station at 5 p.m. or be at MOHAI at by 5:45 p.m. sharp. When: September 17, 2025 Time: Cruise will board at 6pm and return at 9pm. Volunteers are needed to help cleanup the block before the BBQ from 2-4pm as part of a grant that is funding the Block Party. After volunteering, please stick around and enjoy the Block Party! The FIUTS Block Party and BBQ event is now set for Friday, September 19, 4:00-8:00pm in the U District, as part of our Welcome to Seattle Week for new and old local and international students and the FIUTS community across Seattle:

Community BBQ is one of our largest community events held for new students, current students, facilitators, staff, host families, friends, relatives, partners, and pets to celebrate the kick-off of the 2025-2026 school year together.

We will serve beef hot dogs, turkey hot dogs, vegan sausages, chips, soda, etc.
