UW International Education Month

November 2018

Where does International Education Month come from?

International Education Week (IEW), November 12-16, 2018, is a joint initiative by the US Department of State and US Department of Education, and is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. It is part of the two departments’ efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences. In an effort to incorporate as many relevant events at the university, we have expanded the traditional IEW to a full month!

International Education Month at the University of Washington features events from various departments that showcase the university’s global connections and emphasis on diversity and international understanding, which are all values very important to FIUTS! For a full list of International Education events at UW and throughout the community, view the International Education Month calendar.

The University of Washington boasts an incredible amount of international students on its campus, welcoming over 2,500 new international students just this September, and with over 8,000 total international students! On November 13th, the UW President Ana Mari Cauce released a blog post describing the diverse benefits of international education, titled “International Education Benefits Us All”.
