International Welcome Weekend
Welcome to Spring Quarter at the University of Washington! FIUTS International Welcome Weekend officially begins on Friday, March 29, 2019, with additional activities through the weekend.
New international students starting in Spring Quarter 2019 are advised to arrive in Seattle before March 29. All new international students on F-1 or J-1 visas at the University of Washington are required to attend one Embark session, during which you will connect with other new and returning students, prepare for your cultural transition to the UW and U.S., and complete your compulsory immigration check-in process. Embark for Spring 2019 will be on Friday, March 29. Please register to confirm your attendance and share your preferred name.
You will receive weekly e-mails starting approximately two months before International Welcome Weekend on topics such as Embark details, checking in at the UW, and transportation. These emails will also be archived online.
Spring 2019 International Welcome Weekend Schedule
Meet up with a current UW student to go to the Husky Card office so you can get your Husky Card right away. Meet outside the FIUTS office (HUB 206) and bring your UW student ID number and your passport.
New students coming to UW on an exchange program through the UW Study Abroad office are required to attend this session to learn more about the policies and processes related to their exchange program and meet other exchange students.

New international students joining UW for Spring 2019 are invited to join a UW campus tour, led by current UW students. After the tour, the group will head out for dinner and conversation at a local restaurant in the University District. Family members and friends are also welcome. Bring $10-15 for dinner. Tour groups will be departing from the Embark session in HUB 214.
Explore Seattle's various neighborhoods! We'll divide you into groups and give you clues that will lead you to landmarks, shops and more! Get to know your new surroundings in the University District, and explore the famous Pike Place Market for sightseeing in America's oldest public market.
Welcome new Spring Quarter international students, and spend an afternoon exploring the Green Lake neighborhood, a beautiful urban lake surrounded by a walking path, restaurants, coffee shops and more just a short bus ride away from campus. If the weather is rainy, we'll head inside for an all-ages happy hour! Bring money for food and activities. New and returning students are all welcome!
