Meet the FIUTS Summer 2021 SUSIs: Russia

FIUTS is thrilled to welcome 24 undergraduates from Brazil, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia, and Tunisia as part of the 2021 Study of the US Institute (SUSI) for Student Leaders on Education and the Future of Work. While this program usually takes place in person in Seattle, we are excited to host our first virtual SUSI this summer!

During the 5-week virtual program, the group will study the ways in which technology, innovation, and globalization are prompting the development of new initiatives to educate and prepare youth with the professional skills needed to succeed in the future. They will also take part in curriculum development seminars to prepare them to develop and lead trainings that benefit their home communities.

Every day this week FIUTS will introduce the SUSI participants from one of the six country groups that make up the 2021 cohort. Continue on to read more about the SUSIs representing Russia!

Alina Vinokurova

My name is Alina Vinokurova and I’m from Russia, Ekaterinburg. I’m a student of the Ural State Pedagogical University, finishing my 4th year of education. And there is one more year to study and I’m going to graduate in 2022. At the university I study languages: German and English! I really enjoy teaching kids! It gives me so much energy and inspiration! As for my hobbies I like different kinds of art: I sing, dance and draw. I’m also a part of our University Media Center. We create, film and edit different videos about student events, writing and posting articles in our social media networks. Apart from university activities, I enjoy volunteering. I have been helping at our regional volunteer center “Volunteers Ural” (or we call it “Volural”) for almost 7 years! I love meeting new people and making friends, leaving my comfort zone and accepting new challenges! So I hope this program will help me with that and bring a lot of new experience and emotions!

Tsymzhit Sambueva

"It lies in the ability to get the other person's point of view and see things from that person's angle as well as from your own."

My name is Tsymzhit and I'm from the coldest region of Russia - Siberia. Recently I have completed my Bachelor's degree in International journalism. I work as a photographer and content creator for social media. The thing that inspires me the most in photography is showing people how truly beautiful they are, see their reactions, and sometimes tears of happiness! During my university studies, I joined Irkutsk Regional volunteer center and participated in international events. In 2019 I went to Wuhan, China as an exchange student for 6 months and that was an eye-opener experience for me. It was so overwhelming and inspiring to see people with absolutely different backgrounds in one place talking about things that unite us. That moment I understood that everyone actually the same, but different! In my free time, I like hiking, riding a bicycle, listening to music, and walking.
