Here’s to World Mental Health Day!

Try the Resources below to access Mental Health Support

Every year for more than a decade, the World Health Organization (WHO) has marked World Mental Health Day on October 10th. We at FIUTS join the WHO to raise awareness about mental health right here in our local world community to advocate for any of you experiencing mental health issues.

First and foremost, all Seattle colleges and universities offer mental health services to international students in one form or another. Try such search terms as: “<your college name> international students mental health resources;” <your college name> international students well being;” or “Seattle international students mental health.”

If you prefer support outside of your college campus, there are numerous public services:
The Crisis Hotline offers free and immediate support: Call 988. They will probably ask if you have considered or have planned suicide. If you call from a phone with an area code other than 206, contact King County (and surrounding counties) hotline: 206.461.3222.  If you are calling on behalf of another student, call 206.461.3210.

Washington 211: A free, confidential community service and your one-stop connection to the local services you need. Search for specific support.

Asian & Pacific Islander Counseling and Referral Services (ACRS):
BIPOC National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI)-Seattle mental health resources
Health Black Minds, a service of the Urban League
Pan-Indian/South India American Services Mental health options
Seattle Indian (Indigenous) Health Board (SIHB) Mental Health Services

World Relief state office

Visit the Seattle Public Library branch near you: let the help desk know you need support. They are trained to help identify what kind of help you need. See also their resource page.

If you do not currently have or have temporarily lost your student health insurance for whatever reason, Washington State also offers free or low cost health care coverage: Apply for Apple Health.

A simple phone call or email directly to any of the above organizations should initiate support. If you are uncertain as to how to proceed, however, you may also call FIUTS at 206-437-8046, 10am-4pm, Mon-Fri.
