FIUTS Annual Campaign 2019: Promoting Cross-Cultural & Cross-Generational Connections
Leann Onishi was three years old when her parents, Martha and Kenji Onishi began hosting with FIUTS. “I was exposed to various perceptions of my own family, home, community, and country that extended well beyond my views. I had so many people around as role models—young adults leaving their home countries to pursue higher education. Everyone was so kind and friendly. I had a very warm, secure childhood with only positive images of people from around the world.” When she came to UW as a student, Leann became active in FIUTS herself and joined the Student Board. She maintains friendships with many other students from her time at FIUTS, as well as with many of the students and scholars her parents hosted over five decades.
