Photo Contest: View Outside Your Window

The FIUTS Photo Contest is a weekly opportunity for members of the FIUTS community to share images from around the world. The theme for this week was "view outside your window.” Since last Friday, we received photos of eleven stunning views by photographers from India, Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia, Bangladesh, and the U.S.

There were many great submissions and it was difficult for the FIUTS Staff to choose just three winners! Thank you to everyone for sharing your pictures - continue on to see photo entries and contest winners…

“The picture was taken in a hotel at Sun Moon Lake, one of the most famous tourist resorts in Taiwan. This quiet scene is very unusual as Sun Moon Lake is known for its rigorous tourists from all around the world, but even the greatest attraction remains empty during this pandemic. Looking out from my window, I was shocked by how the tourist boats were all anchored by the port but not busying showing passengers around the lake!”

2nd Place

“This photo was taken last summer in Vietnam when I visited my family. The red fruits are Rambutans and the neighboring trees are lychees. The small river in the background is where kids catch fish and swim in their free time.”

Nghi Quan // Hometown: Vinh Long, Vietnam

“If there's any silver lining to COVID-19, it would be that it allowed me to opt out of university housing. I moved in to a new place and was struck by the fact that I could see the iconic Space Needle -- a constant reminder of how lucky I am to be able to live in Seattle.”

Alyssa Seng // Hometown: Ventura, CA, USA

HERE ARE ALL OF THE INCREDIBLE SUBMISSIONS WE RECEIVED - ORDERED RANDOMLY. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE FIUTS PHOTO CONTEST!

“I took this photo a couple years ago in England around Christmas time during a homestay at a lovely farmhouse located in Cumbria. The quiet country side made it easy to sleep through the night and I naturally woke up before sunrise to crisp morning air, this photo was taken on one of those mornings!”

“This is a photo from the dining room of my friend's house that I am staying at in Snoqualmie, Washington. It overlooks a line of pine trees and when the sky is clear and the sun is shining it looks so magical.”

Melany Smart // Hometown: Perth, Australia

“The mountain that you can see in this picture is Mt. Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan! Because I live in Shizuoka, where Mt. Fuji is located, I can see it from my home. Mt. Fuji is often covered by clouds and not really visible during summer, but luckily I could see it when I took this photo. If you would like to see the beautiful Mt. Fuji covered by snow, I recommend you to visit Japan in winter.”

Saki Yoshizawa // Hometown: Auburn, WA, USA

“This photo is from Seattle, from my window and from my heart. As a stargazer, it always inspires me to fly away into the stars and look up for the future. I tried to focus the moon as well as the stars through my window at 6th floor.”

Yasin Chowdhury // Hometown: Dhaka, Bangladesh
