Congratulations to Era Schrepfer: NAFSA Hugh Jenkins Award Winner
Congratulations to our very own Era Schrepfer, recipient of the Hugh Jenkins Award for Excellence in Community Programming from NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
The Hugh Jenkins Award honors people who exemplify a long-term dedication to international exchange and understanding. Era has served as Executive Director of FIUTS since 2006.
“I’m deeply grateful to receive the 2025 Hugh M. Jenkins Award from NAFSA!
Thank you to NAFSA for shining a light on the power of community programming, and to everyone who’s been part of the FIUTS story —students, community members, and colleagues who make the work of building connection across cultures meaningful and joyful. I’m lucky to keep learning and growing in such good company. ”
Over her 19 years of leadership, Era has helped FIUTS continue its 77-year legacy while adapting to meet the needs of a changing world. Under her direction, the organization has expanded its reach through a refined leadership development curriculum and a broad range of partnerships with the U.S. Department of State and others, bringing young leaders from more than 50 countries to Seattle for civic engagement and leadership programs. The past few years have brought real challenges, including the loss of university funding and the uncertainties facing international education across the country. Through it all, Era’s steady focus on belonging, connection, and community has ensured that international students continue to find a true home in Seattle.
