Faces of FIUTS: Daniel Teca

I am Daniel, an Angolan Chemical Engineer and entrepreneur driven by curiosity, sustainability, and industrial innovation. My university journey was shaped by developing projects focused on environmental protection and pollution reduction, which took me from national competitions to representing Angola at regional and global levels. I currently work as a shift production supervisor in a yogurt manufacturing factory, where I continue to grow through hands-on leadership in an industrial environment.

I also participated in a 2025 visiting program to Seattle, strengthening my leadership, communication, and civic engagement skills. Outside of engineering, I am a calm and reflective person who enjoys reading manga, manhua, and manhwa, exploring fantasy worlds, listening to music, and spending quiet nights by the sea. I value peace, faith, and meaningful moments.

How were you introduced to FIUTS?

I was introduced to FIUTS during my participation in a 2025 visiting program

Where are you from?

I am from Luanda, Angola, a coastal city shaped by the Atlantic Ocean, vibrant culture, and strong contrasts between rapid urban growth and everyday resilience

Angola is a lively and joyful country, known for its music, dance, and contagious energy. From semba, kizomba, and kuduro to its rich cuisine and hospitality, there is a strong sense of identity and warmth in its people. I come from a place where resilience and joy coexist naturally.

Growing up there influenced both my curiosity about industrial development and my awareness of environmental challenges, especially related to waste management and sustainability.

Share a story about experiencing Seattle through a visitor’s eyes.

My first impression of Seattle was not entirely positive. I found it beautiful and well-organized, but the cultural diversity and different rhythms felt unfamiliar at first. Over time, as I explored the city, I began to understand and appreciate its unique character.

Seattle revealed itself as a welcoming city where it is easy to feel at home. Each day brought something new to discover, from quiet neighborhoods to more urban and lively areas. The constant rain, sometimes mixed with snow, created a strange but poetic atmosphere, somewhere between confusion, reflection, and fascination.

Places like the Space Needle and Wings Over Washington left strong memories. Gradually, Seattle showed itself as both innovative and calm, a metropolis with a peaceful soul where nature and technology coexist in balance.

Walking through Seattle, from the University of Washington to the waterfront, reinforced this sense of harmony. Ferries moving across the water while the city remained active in the background created a quiet balance that stayed with me. It is a city that invites reflection and leaves lasting impressions.
