CulturalFest Countdown: Meet Chinese Classical Dancing Group

We are less than three weeks away from the CulturalFest Performance Showcase on February 2! The Performance Showcase will feature 11 performing artists and groups who will share cultures from around the world on the Meany Hall stage. Meet the Chinese Classical Dancing Group, which will be sharing a classical dance piece they choreographed themselves.

Our group started when we were freshmen, about three years ago. One of our group members was looking for dancers to perform in the Chinese Spring Festival Gala. At the beginning, we only had five people, and we gathered together because we all love dance. Our first original dance was performed on the Gala successfully, so then we wanted to form a registered student organization at UW, named HuaXiGe.

A year ago, two other dancers joined our team, and we created the piece of dance which will be performed at CulturalFest. Now, we have nine dancers in our team. The main purpose of performing at CulturalFest is to show the beauty of Chinese ancient dance to people from other nations. We spent lot of time and energy in choreographing and practicing, so we want to show people our hard work. Also, we want to publicize our team to schoolmates. We believe that this could become one of the most impressive memories at UW. Although we are studying abroad, far away from our hometown, but we never forget our own culture.
